Ice skating rink may be closed without notice to inclement weather or unforeseen mechanical issues. The rink is a seasonal offering that is opened the first of November thru the first of January. Throughout the season, enjoy public skating sessions, fun events like Skate with a Super Hero and Disco Night. Skate guards will be on site for all public skating sessions to lend a helping hand.
Unfortunately, there are few good skate shops in New York City these days, especially compared to the glory days of the mid and late s. It seems there are almost no specialty skate shops left, and the sporting goods stores have either cut way back on their inline skate selection or dropped inlines entirely. Blades was the city's best source for inline skate gear from around into the early s. At its peak, the chain had at least eight stores in the city and had opened a few in other cities. But they faded away, and as of early were down to just a single store — Blades Downtown, in the Village near NYU — and that store no longer sells skates.
